~The “Experience”~

Most holidays, my sister and I put ourselves through the “experience.”

The “experience” of getting a shot of all of the cousins together.

Sounds like a wonderful idea.  Until you actually try to get 10 kiddos to all smile and pose at the same time.

That experience just ain’t gonna be a fun one.

We usually get a couple of cousins who are completely disinterested in even trying to make Aunt Angie and Aunt Drew’s cameras happy:

And then there are those cousins who are overly-laughing in a hysterical fashion at all of the weird faces Uncle Mark is making behind Aunt Angie’s back…because Uncle Mark is so dang funny you know!!

There will be an older cousin who is trying to keep a hold of the baby cousin before she takes off for only God knows where:
fun3

And an older cousin who is trying to move into a new position that her aunt told her to move to…but then the aunt snaps the photo before she even has two free seconds to get into the new position:
fun2

Throw in another older cousin who has steadfastly held the same pose for the last 10 minutes, but just happens to look at Aunt Drew’s camera when his mom is really the one who needs him to look at her:
fun5

And finally!  There is one cousin who actually is looking at the camera without looking cheesy or posed.  One!
fun6

But whoops!  We can't forget about this ornery cousin…what can even be said about him?
fun7

Oh my.  I’m not even sure where to go with that one.

Combine them all together to get…one big messy slew of cousins.  And blurry cousins.

Why, the whole experience is just a photographer's dream come true!!

At least these two photographers can thank the good Lord above that the “experience” is now over and done with.

At least until the next big holiday…

You know with your skills, you could just photoshop them all together. hehe

it's amazing the resemblance between the cousins, hard to tell which are siblings and which are cousins.

we did individuals of all the cousins the other day, and by the time that was over, there was no way I was even pushing my luck for a group shot! We were missing a few anyways, so we had decided not to, but it wouldn't have been fun! Something to remember I guess!

Been there! And even though it's not a perfectly-posed shot, it is still great!

So neat to see a whole family of cousins together.
Our chance will come the day after Christmas!

hehe. If I weren't too dang tired to laugh out loud, I know this post about this experience would have me giggling with tears running down my face!!
And hey, I have the answer to your 10 cousin dilemma: COLLAGE!!!! ;-)

I think that is a great cousin shot!!! I love how you broke it up into all those little pictures! Clever! All of their personalities sure do give it the right pizazz!

We are having a big family Christmas this year - 23 of us, 13 of whom are children - all cousins!! I am hoping for snow or fine weather so I can take shoot outside (my camera is not so nice inside) and I WILL challenge myself to get a shot of all of them together, but I guess it will be somewhere nowhere near as good as yours - esp as I don't even have as good a camera!! You see with 7 of my own why there are not that many shots with them all in!! ;) Despite all that, I like your shot - I think each child shows theirs character in some way or other in it!

I find gruop shots always very difficult!
Especially with kids ;)

That is just too funny! My sister and I struggle to get a picture of just the four of ours all together, halfway looking in the right direction with no one crying or making a silly face!
Good to know someone with actual photography skills struggles too;)
