~The Dancing Dog~

If I’ve told Weslea once, I’ve told her a million times… “If we had to get a dog, you chose the best dog we could ever possibly have gotten.”

And she always says… “Willow is not just a dog now mom, she’s a member of our family.”

I’m still trying to remember why I bought that girl the “Raising a Lab” book that she is continually finding facts from to spout at me.

Willow…
  • is calm
  • and relaxed
  • very rarely barks
  • has never cried (not even once) when we put her in her cage
  • goes into her cage willingly every time
  • is loving
  • doesn’t lick too much (a pet peeve I have about animals)
  • and is calm (that fact is so awesome that I had to list it twice)

She and I have a little routine now.

1) Act a little crazy while the kids are getting ready for school
2) Bring me every sock and shoe she can find for approximately 30 minutes
3) Curl up under my chair and sleep for the next seven hours

It’s a nice routine we have.

Outside of the obsessive need to chew on socks and shoes, she’s been pretty much a perfect puppy for us.

Until Monday night.

Monday night Bill and I were standing in the kitchen talking about something, listening to the sounds of the kids laughter in the next room, enjoying a moment together until… we heard the following:

“Mom and Dad!!  Come look!  Willow is dancing with me!”

After sharing a puzzled look, I called out “She's doing what?!”

“She’s dancing…on my leg!

It took us a moment, but then realization hit hard and we practically knocked each other down to get into the living room where we could make Willow stop….ummm…. “dancing”… on our kiddo’s leg.

Yep!  Outside of the chewing and her new-found “dancing” skills, she’s the perfect dog!

Oh my goondess This is the funniest thing i have ever heard! CHildren are so innocent... if only they new! :D

I am glad you have a good tempered puppy. Mine is absolutely driving me crazy. I mean really to the point... that I want to dump her outside my door... if it weren't for my kids I would! She is a lab/collie mix and has discovered the garbage cans, diapers, christmas ornaments, my wooden deck in my back yard, the kitchen counters, my camera, my pajamas, blankets, socks, books, stuffed animals, my after baby delivery flowers from my friend, and what else.... hairbows, furniture... UGH! I cannot leave her unattended or she chews on everything. And when we go to bed at night... she finds herself a nice cozy spot on my couch... and she knows better because the minute we come in the room she jumps down.

SOOO does this make you appreciate the dancing a little more??? For some reason my 9 month old puppy has never reached the dancing stage... in fact I tease my husband and say... "She's a girl... which means she just never wants it!!" She gets mad when other dogs go for that area... too funny!

Labs tend to be all-around good natured dogs *IF* you can survive their obsessive chewing...

Glad you are enjoying your puppy journey :-)

Oh she is beautiful! I have two labs and they are the best dogs you could ever find!! Our second lab had trouble with chewing and I just bought her so many chew toys and raw hide bones that everywhere she went in the house there was one to chew on, so she never chewed anything of value!

That's a riot, Angie. Our Golden Retriever likes to try to "dance" with our black lab. She looks totally irritated when he does it, too!

Our girl is 2 this month (lab mix) and has finally gotten past the real chewing stage. She loves her bones and chew toys, but we can finally put a dog bed down for her and not find the corners eaten away the next morning. Willow is absolutely beautiful... but dumb me somehow thought that it was only the boy dogs that danced. Guess this is my new fact for the day...

Apparently girl dogs enjoy dancing too. LOL!!

I'm so glad you allowed Willow to come and live with you.

Weslea has not gotten tired of Willow yet, has she?

Give her a pet and a scritch from all of us at W Congress St.

and begin using those retrieving skills! I almost never pick anything up off the floor anymore, our dogs to it for us.

She must have a little Irish Leg Hound in her hey?
Things puppies do. When Ruby was in heat, our then 12 week old Hope puppy, found Ruby to be quite a lot of amorous fun. So embarrassing!
Willow is adorable!
BTW, saw your recipe over on PW! Yay!

I am very happy you found a beautiful and well behaved dog. However, I HAD to let you know that I laughed so hard at the ending. That was priceless!

Willow is gorgeous Angie!!! What a great subject you'll have for your photography for years to come!!

Oh, the dancing thing. Ruby likes to "dance" on our arm - something we put an immediate halt too....LOL

So, I have to head over to PW's page and see the recipe that Amy is referring to.

I'm so glad you're enjoying Willow. She's precious - and your photos capture that beautifully!
Our first dog, Jake (Jaker-Shaker, the Big Mess Maker), was a black lab. He stole our hearts immediately and is the reason we've become such a big dog-family.
Anyway, Jake was a "dancer." But it seems I was his preferred partner. He never attempted to dance with my husband or daughter.
Aren't their quirks funny?!

hahahahahhaha... that is funny. sounds like it is about time to take a trip to the vet. labs are my one true dog love.

HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA Thats hysterical! Lucy Wiener is a very good "dancer" and tries to dance on Henry Wiener whenever he's getting attention.

For her, it's completely a domination thing. She's always got to be the one in charge. Wonder where she gets that from?? *whistle whistle*

LOL - that's funny and the dog is really cute. Glad it's working out for you :D
