~ An Amazing Year ~

I had grand plans earlier this week of putting together a beautiful, long, completely sappy post about how much i heart faces and, most especially, Amy have meant to me over the past year.  We’re celebrating our first birthday!  It seemed like the right time to write a post like that.

And then we had almost 1,000 photo entries into our contest this week and my free time was gone in the blink of an eye.

And then my kids decided to share their completely awful flu with me.

And there went all my grand plans…right down the toilet.

Literally.

{Ahem.}

Moving on…

In that post I was going to try to get Amy back a little bit for all the no-good, terrible photos she had posted of me over the past year by mentioning that I had proof of how talkative she is (the girl can’t even walk without talking)…
amy4

I was going to show proof of just how bossy she can be (I feel free to mention that here because she would tell you that herself)…

And I couldn't forget just how fun she is as well!

I was going to talk about how she is one of the most creative people I have ever known…
150x150_I_Heart_Faces_No_border (new logo she designed for i heart faces)

And also one of the most giving.
Angie_Arthur_Photography_Atomic_Egg
(complete logo design she created for Angie Arthur Photography for my birthday)

And, most importantly, about how awesome this past year has been working together.

We were talking on the phone Monday night while going through some of the first photo entries and realized that we both had tears in our eyes over the kind words that everyone seemed to be putting in their posts.  It was unexpected and yet so completely appreciated.  We talked about the strange circumstances that led us to one another and about how there was no other way to explain it except that it had been a “God Thing.”

Both of just happening to stumble upon the one same blog in all of internetland in the spring of 2008.

Somehow finding each other’s sites as well in the summer of 2008.

Making an instant connection as friends.

The funny emails that were sent back-and-forth daily that cemented our friendship.

The email in the fall of 2008 that was the very beginning of i heart faces.

The three months of planning that came about after that first email.

The first phone call we made to each other in January 2009 (only a week before heart faces went live.)

Our first face-to-face meeting at Blissdom in February 2009.

That list could go on and on.

It seems so awesome to me that two women were brought together – both with their own completely different strengths – to make a community that seems to mean so much to so many other woman.

It completely boggles my mind as to what an amazing thing that is!

I do know one thing for sure.  If for nothing else, I am so very glad that heart faces came about just so that I could meet and get to know a certain Ms. Amy.

Cheers everyone!  And here’s to another amazing year…

You are soooo bad! If you hadn't have posted such nerdy photos of me... I might actually cry! Luckily for me, I don't mind nerdy photos (as long as there is no double chin:-)

FYI: Being bossy at a photo shoot is called "Art Directing" thank you!! Now you know why I love my job so much:-)

People reading this, don't let Angie fool you with her gushy blog posts, she's just as bossy as me, maybe even more. (She does have 4 kids ya know) Get us together and WATCH OUT:-) LOL!

Angie, I don't know what I would do without you! I'm so lucky to have you in my life. I wish we lived closer so our kids could play, we could have girl nights and I could take blackmail photos of you to use on my blog:-) It's crazy that over a year has gone by since we met, even though I feel like I've known you my whole life. Thank you so much for your wonderful friendship and all you do to make I Heart Faces such a wonderful place. You are amazing!

You two ladies are incredible, and I feel blessed not only because I get to be a part of a community you created, but because I've been lucky enough to meet you both and witness your fantasticness (is that a word?) in person. You've done wonderful things for my photography, and I look forward to the things you have in store for us in 2010. Thank you both for all you do!

This post is so sweet. I think I might cry! I didn't realize that your friendship was so new. I guess I thought that you had been friends for a long time. It is amazing how God can bring people together.

I have learned so much through your blog (and have had so much fun!). Thank you both creating and building i heart faces. It is such a supportive community - thanks to your leadership. Thanks, gals!

Hope to meet you both in person someday. -Sonja K (Team Krasean)

I agree with Briana -- so glad that I not only found the I Heart Faces community, but that I also got to meet you both in Dallas. When is the next workshop?? :)

I totally agree with Brianna and Sarah!
I also agree with you, Angie, that it can only be a "God thing." Lasting friendships are so hard to find, and I think it is awesome that you guys found it! Not only awesome for you guys, but awesome for the iheartfaces community! We are all better because of it!
I can't wait for the next year and hope I can become an even better photographer! Thanks again!
(Gotta go with Sarah on this one too... when's the next workshop? lol!)

Well, iheartfaces has cetainly won its place in my heart and since those very early days I think I've maybe only missed a week or two of posting (like when we moved and had no internet, or we've been on holiday with no internet). It's become a part of me - and has been instrumental in photography becoming my re-found passion! I am SO thankful for all I have learnt and discovered through the network and the blog. I would say it is almost solely responsible for the fact that people are now beginning to say "have you thought about earning some money from your photography?" - which of course I have!! I am looking forward to the year(s) ahead joining in with all you do. So I guess a massive THANKYOU needs to pass it's way to you and Amy for getting the ball rolling and being the backbone of something so fabulous - and such a 'God Thing!!' :D

*waaaaaah*! Good grief, I am just a weeping little baby over here now. From the IHF post to here, it's just such a blessing to have found IHF. And the fact that YOU see it as a God thing? Probably a big part of WHY I love it here. Feels like home...

I LOVED reading your post Angie. I have only known about, and been a fan of I♥faces a couple of months. I had no idea what the story was behind it. For sure a God thing, I agree. What a blessing!!! Thank you Angie and Amy for using your amazing God given gifts to put this blog together. I LOVE IT! :) You guys are awesome!

Congrats to you two! You inspire me everyday to take my photography to the next level. What level? I've yet to figure it out, but I love this craft and I hope to continue learning from the site that you two created. And the new logos for both Faces and Angie's Photo are amazing. Congrats and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Angie,

I think your story and experience really shows how powerful blogging and the internet can be and that God "picked" you two out.

I haven't been able to participate as much as I would like, but I absolutely love iheartfaces. You two have made photography and the group such a breathe of fresh air and so inviting to "anyone". I love that about the group...there is no sense of being exclusive. You guys rock!

Sincerely,
Beth

Angie... who won the Best face from two weeks ago? I am new to your blogs and I love all that you do!! Thanks so much. I have been looking under winners but so far have not seen it!

I am SO glad you two found each other. Because of that, so many of us have been able to improve our photo-taking skills.

Thanks so much to both of YOU!!

This is the one of the very best parts of I Heart Faces to me - all of the new friends I have made. Love that so much!

@Diana - we put in the guidelines for our Logo Contest that the winners would not be announced until January 20th (Weds.) There were so many entries to go through and so many judges to coordinate with that we knew we'd need the extra time to complete that task. Be watching on the 20th for that super-fun Winners Post!

awwww. I love the photos; I love the story; I love both of you; and, of course, I love IHF.

Thanks for taking a risk and jumping in with both feet and making such a special community.

I just want to thank you for all the work you put into the I Heart Faces site. I am a beginner photographer and I have learned so much from the site. Every now and then I get brave enough to enter a photo and although I've never won, it's still a wonderful experience. I can't imagine how you find the time to look at all those photos! I so very much enjoy looking at every one else's work--although I never have the time to look at all the entries. :)
Thank you and Happy Birthday!
