I'm sorry Angie but as soon as I started to read this I knew where it was going. And you wouldn't be going for a walk to the lake! It is that far! I remember the first time I climbed this expecting to be on top of Lake Michigan. Not! It made me ever more exhausted. But the absolute thrill of running down made up for it.
So glad your boys made it back okay. What a scary experience! Are you making any plans to head back north this summer?

It reminds me of the time our church in CA took a group of kids to the Aderondack mountains, and my brother went missing. When we stopped for lunch and everyone was preoccupied, he followed a group of teenage girls up a mountain. He was 3 or 4 at the time, and they thought it was so cute that he was following them. Eventually their brains kicked in and they decided they should take him to a forest ranger. Even though I was just a kid, I remember being so upset I couldn't eat my lunch. We've all had those "What was I thinking?" parenting moments?

Angie, apparently you didn't hear our story about the Dunes. We also made the mistake of thinking that Lake Michigan was "just over the next hill". Jon will have to tell you the story.

I don't know that this qualifies as dumbest parent of the year.....I work in LE and the parents I deal with are .far. ahead of you in that category.

I am glad this turned out well, I am glad you got to take some pictures you can look at today without a pounding heart and I am glad you had the courage to post them with the story.

You know, stuff happens. Kids make mistakes (because they are kids) and parents often learn from their kids questionable choices. Gray hair sometimes accompanies those learning experiences.
